King on Guns

King, in the very spot he was later gunned down.

King's stance on guns? It's complicated.

MLK was often surrounded by guns - be it the armed soldiers who often protected his family, or the state troopers "managing" crowds during the Civil Rights Movement. Despite his proximity, the peaceful King was never pro guns.

Despite his peaceful nature, as a Southerner & as a member of the Movement King did understand that there was a place for guns (especially when that place was watching his back).

Fast foreward to 2016 and the conversation is still two - sided. Today is Martin Luther King Day. What's the right answer?
